POLICE made a series of drug-related arrests across Namibia during the festive period, with the largest and most significant bust recorded in Oshakati, where a suspect was found in possession of multiple illicit substances, including crack cocaine, cocaine powder, crystal meth and mandrax tablets.

According to the police crime report, the highest-value seizure was made on Christmas Day, at about 18:45 at Evululuuko location in Oshakati. Acting on information about alleged drug dealing, police searched a house and found crack cocaine, doses of cocaine powder, cannabis (skunk), crystal meth (tik), mandrax tablets and cash believed to be proceeds of drug sales. A 47-year-old Namibian man was arrested and remains in police custody.

Earlier the same evening, in Outapi’s Onhimbu location, police arrested two suspects, a 24-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, after a search of their premises uncovered cannabis and crack cocaine in a bedroom. Both suspects are expected to appear before the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Another major arrest was recorded on Friday,at Oshakati West, where a 23-year-old Namibian man was found in possession of blocks and units of crack cocaine during a house search prompted by a tip-off. He is also expected to appear before the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

On the same day in Osire refugee settlement, police arrested two Congolese nationals, aged 23 and 55, after allegedly finding them packing cannabis into bankies at their residence. They are due to appear before the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court.

In Swakopmund’s DRC location, an 18-year-old Namibian male was arrested on Friday afternoon after being found with mandrax tablets and bankies of loose and skunk cannabis during a police search.

Several other arrests were made on Wednesday. In Tsumeb’s Soweto location, a 45-year-old Namibian man was arrested after police allegedly found parcels and bankies of cannabis, mandrax tablets and powder and Yes cigarettes following a tip-off and search. In Aranos’ Nuweris location, a 26-year-old Namibian man was arrested after being found with cannabis and mandrax tablets.

In Lüderitz, two separate drug-related arrests were made in the early hours of the same day. A 17-year-old Namibian male was arrested after being found with cannabis during a stop-and-search, while a 21-year-old Namibian man was found with a bankie of cannabis and mandrax tablets.

Near Hochfeld, police arrested several suspects at the C31 and M59 Y-junction, about 49 kilometres from the settlement. Five Namibian men aged between 19 and 31 were arrested after cannabis and a mandrax tablet were found in their vehicle. In a related incident at the same location, a 31-year-old Namibian man was arrested after a parcel of cannabis was allegedly found hidden under a car seat.

Additional arrests were recorded on Friday in Stampriet, where a 24-year-old Namibian man was found with mandrax tablets and a skunk bankie, and on Saturday, 27 December, in Onawa location, Oshakati Township, where a 23-year-old Namibian woman was arrested after being found with cannabis.

All suspects are in police custody, with several expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts. Police investigations into all cases are continuing.
