A GROUP of tourists has been safely rescued after their vehicle was swept away by flash floods near Uis in the Erongo Region, following heavy rainfall that caused rivers to rise rapidly. The incident briefly left the group stranded as floodwaters blocked the road, but all occupants were later confirmed to be unharmed. Brandberg White Lady Lodge issued an urgent safety notice warning that the Ugab River is currently unsafe due to strong river flow.

The incident occurred today when sudden flash flooding caused a vehicle carrying the tourists to be swept into a river near the remote settlement of Uis. The fast-flowing water trapped the group, raising concerns as access routes were cut off and communication was hampered by poor network coverage.

According to Monarch Lifeguard, rescue teams managed to reach the group and safely evacuate them despite difficult conditions. The rescuers reported that while their own vehicle became stuck in mud at the scene, all tourists were successfully brought to safety.

The tourists, who are from the Netherlands, were later assisted by local mechanics, while their luggage was transported by bakkie to their next destination. Community members also came forward to help, ensuring the group was left in safe hands.

The Brandberg White Lady Lodge again issued an urgent safety notice warning that the Ugab River is currently unsafe due to strong river flow. Traditional authorities in the area confirmed that the river is extremely dangerous due to the heavy rainfall. Guests and visitors have been urged to stay out of the river until further notice, as heavy rains continue to pose a risk of flash flooding in the area.
