LEONARD Hango, the Mayor of Oshakati, took all the necessary precautionary measures, including contracting Peter Security Services to guard his house, before he went on vacation on 23 December.
Notwithstanding the presence of a security guard, Hango’s house was still broken into, and his white Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen together with other valuable items.
It is alleged that while enjoying his vacation, Hango received a call on Saturday afternoon from a friend who informed him that someone was driving a white Land Cruiser and selling items believed to have been stolen, and that the description of the vehicle matched Hango’s.
He hurriedly returned to Oshakati and found the gate locked, while the security guard was nowhere to be found.
His Land Cruiser was also gone, and the entire house had been ransacked.
Besides the Land Cruiser, valued at N$800,000, other stolen items included a pistol valued at N$4,000, a TV set (N$5,500), two laptops valued at N$4,500 and N$7,000 respectively, two wigs (N$5,500), clothes of undetermined value, and a backpack containing N$1 coins (N$5,600).
Only the vehicle has been recovered.
The suspect is unknown, and no arrest has been made yet.
