A 50-YEAR-OLD male resident of Otjiwarongo was arrested on Friday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving allegedly hit and killed a five-year-old boy and injured a one-year-old girl.

The incident occurred in the old Ombili location at around 14:50.

The police said that the driver had no driver’s licence and that the grey Toyota Corolla he was driving had no number plates.

It is alleged that the vehicle ploughed through the perimeter fence of a house and crashed into a group of four children who were playing under a tree. Two children managed to escape, but the other two were hit, one fatally.

When he appears in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the arrested suspect will face a litany of charges, namely: culpable homicide; reckless and/or negligent driving; drunken driving; operating an unlicensed vehicle; and operating a vehicle without a driver’s licence.
