THE University of Namibia (UNAM) has released its compulsory minimum payments required at registration for the 2026 academic year, outlining what students must pay upfront and the conditions attached to registration. The university is urging all current and prospective students to familiarise themselves with the fees early to avoid delays during registration.

According to UNAM, Namibian students will be required to pay a tuition fee deposit of N$4,000, a registration fee of N$1,500, connectivity fees of N$575, technology fees of N$750, and a student administration levy of N$150. This brings the total minimum amount payable at registration to N$6,975.

Students from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will pay a higher amount, with a tuition deposit of N$5,650, registration fees of N$1,500, connectivity fees of N$575, technology fees of N$750, a student administration levy of N$150, and an international student levy of N$3,500. The total payable at registration for SADC students is N$12,125.

For non-SADC students, the tuition deposit is set at N$14,300, with registration fees of N$1,500, connectivity fees of N$575, technology fees of N$750, a student administration levy of N$150, and an international student levy of N$3,500. This brings the total minimum registration payment to N$20,775.

UNAM has reminded students that all outstanding balances from previous years must be settled before registration, as the subsidised tertiary education funding model for Namibian students does not cover historical debt. The university also clarified that Namibian students pursuing a second or subsequent qualification at the same or lower National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level, as well as postgraduate students, are not covered by the subsidy and will be required to pay the full registration fees and deposits at registration.

The university further stated that at least 60% of the total fee balance must be paid by 30 June 2026, with the remaining 40% due by 30 November 2026. Students who pay their tuition fees in full before the end of February 2026 may qualify for a 10% discount on tuition fees, excluding additional class fees, provided they apply for the discount in writing by 31 May 2026.

Bursary holders may be exempted from paying the tuition deposit if they submit written proof of sponsorship. A late registration fee of N$600 will apply to students who register after the normal registration period.

UNAM also reiterated that cash payments are no longer accepted. Students are required to pay via card at campus cashier points, electronic funds transfer, bank deposit, or through the university’s online payment platform. Students have been advised to always use their student number as the reference when making payments.
