SEVERAL parts of the country are expected to experience heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding, particularly in the Omusati, Oshana, Kavango East, Otjozondjupa and Khomas regions, prompting calls for residents and motorists to take necessary precautions.
Opuwo, where steady rain was reported early Monday morning following showers the night before. Weather observers said the rainfall is welcome after prolonged dry conditions and is expected to continue for at least the next 24 hours. Other areas that recorded rainfall include the Okahandja area, where striking cloud formations were observed.

Reports from various localities indicate significant rainfall over the past 24 hours. Between 7 and 10 millimetres of rain were recorded in areas around Omaruru, with the Omaruru River flowing about 35 kilometres east of the town. Ombu Farm in the Erongo mountains also reported rainfall, while the Hoba Meteorite area near Grootfontein received about 15 millimetres overnight, leaving conditions overcast, warm and humid.
In the Otavi Valley, 15 millimetres of rain fell on Monday morning, bringing the total recorded rainfall to 33 millimetres, with further showers continuing. Windhoek residents reported impressive cloud development, while Helmeringhausen received about 7 millimetres of rain.
Weather conditions indicate partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions in the interior, with isolated thundershowers forecast for the //Kharas Region, while scattered to widespread thundershowers are expected in the north-western and central parts of the country.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert to changing weather conditions, avoid flooded roads and drive with caution, particularly in areas prone to flash flooding.
