THE Namibian Police in the Oshana Region are still looking for a sedan — suspected to be a blue Volkswagen Polo TSI — which hit and killed a suspected armed robber who was fleeing the scene of a crime and was struck while running across the road in Oshakati on Friday evening.
The police are urging members of the public to help trace the sedan and its driver.
According to the police, the driver did not stop to render assistance and is now wanted for culpable homicide and for failure to report and ascertain an injury.
The accident occurred on the main road near the Supa Dupa traffic lights at about 21:20.
The deceased, identified only as Mario from Omafo village in the Ohangwena Region, was allegedly part of a group of five robbers who targeted the R&N Mini Market.
The police said that Mario was positively identified on the minimarket’s CCTV footage together with three other suspects.
When the robbery failed, four suspects managed to escape, including Mario, but the fifth suspect, a 41-year-old resident of Ondjabayalala in the Ohangwena Region, was arrested while attempting to hide in the shop’s shelves.
The police recovered seven spent cartridges, one CZ pistol with a live bullet in the chamber and a fully loaded magazine. The security guard’s cellphone, which was taken from him by the robbers, was also recovered.
