THE Namibian police in the Oshana Region have identified the driver of a blue VW Polo that was involved in a hit-and-run accident in which a fleeing suspected robber was hit and killed in Oshakati on 19 December.

“He [the driver] has been identified and has given his full cooperation to the Namibian Police Force investigators in Oshana,” said the police.

The deceased suspect, identified only as Mario, was allegedly part of a group of five armed robbers who targeted the R&N Mini Market. The robbery failed, and four suspects, including Mario, fled the scene, while the fifth suspect was found trying to hide on the shelves and was promptly arrested.

Mario was struck while running across the road near the traffic lights at Supa Dupa.

The Polo driver did not stop at the time, but has since been traced and is cooperating with crime investigators.
