WIDESPREAD rainfall was recorded across several parts of Namibia yesterday, with scattered showers bringing welcome relief to farming areas, while weather authorities say more isolated thundershowers remain possible over much of the interior.
Reports from residents and farmers indicate variable but steady rainfall in central and eastern regions. In Windhoek, 2.6 mm was recorded, while other locations reported rainfall that increased overnight, with totals rising from 6 mm to about 12 mm in some areas. Lekker Water Farm, about 35 kilometres east of Tsumis Park, received between 9 mm and 25 mm, while Aranos NamPower recorded 25 mm, and Farm Soar about 43 kilometres southwest of Aranos, recorded 74 mm. Alexandria Farm, roughly 40 kilometres north-northwest of Aranos, measured a further 7.5 mm of rain.

Around Okahandja, Kadila Poultry reported 32 mm of rain, while Arnhem, about 20 kilometres west of Leonardville along the C23, received only about 2 mm after light rain throughout the night. Farm Marella, about 20 kilometres south of Leonardville, experienced similar conditions, with nearby Darem recording 5 mm.
Otjiwarongo received light rainfall, with about 4 mm recorded overnight. Combined with rainfall on Family Day, some parts of the town recorded totals of up to 11.5 mm. Further east, a farm located approximately 130 kilometres south-east of Gobabis also reported good rainfall.
According to figures released by Namibia Weather Forecast, Mariental recorded the highest rainfall at around 30 mm, followed by Farm Fanara with 17 mm, Bergvlug with 11.2 mm and parts of the Kalahari with about 8 mm. Okahandja recorded 4 mm, while Tsumis received 3.8 mm and Narais–Duruchaus 3.7 mm.
Weather analysts say synoptic conditions show significant moisture persisting over much of the Namibian interior, particularly towards the east. As a result, partly cloudy conditions with isolated thundershowers are expected to continue. Scattered rainfall is forecast for Ohangwena, Kavango, the //Khomas Region and the eastern parts of Hardap, while the coast is expected to remain partly cloudy with fog patches.
