THE formal bail application of jailed Dr. Fillemon Nakanduungile, which was initially scheduled to start on Monday but only began a day later, has run into yet another hurdle after Magistrate Siegfried Geiseb recused himself, joining several other magistrates who refused to handle the application.

Dr. Nakanduungile was arrested in November on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder following the shooting and acid attack on State prosecutor Justine Shiweda.

The accused made his first court appearance last month, was remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to 16 March 2026.

However, the bail application, which started on Tuesday, did not continue on Wednesday and is now in limbo after Magistrate Geiseb recused himself from the matter too, citing a conflict of interest.

Nakanduungile was arrested in connection with an extremely violent incident in which prosecutor Shiweda was attacked, shot at, her vehicle damaged, and an acidic substance thrown at her in October.

The other seven people who were also arrested and charged in connection with the incident are: Abner Matheus; Matheus Shipanga; Petrus Uusiku; Selma Bahn; Johannes Nghilifavali; Petrus Shikwaya; and Lukas Nekwiyu. They too have appeared in court and were remanded in custody.
