NAMIBIA has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) following the presentation of credentials by its Permanent Delegate, Ambassador Sabine Bohlke-Moller, at the organisation’s headquarters in Paris.

Ambassador Bohlke-Moller presented her Letters of Credence to UNESCO Director-General Khaled El Enani on 18 December 2025. During the meeting, she reiterated Namibia’s strong commitment to proactive engagement with UNESCO in areas of shared interest, including education—particularly technical and vocational education and training (TVET)—as well as cultural and natural heritage, artificial intelligence and environmental protection.

She noted that Namibia currently serves as co-chair of the Group of Friends of Priority Africa and expressed confidence that education, culture, science and communication remain key tools for nation-building and capacity development. Ambassador Bohlke-Moller also thanked UNESCO for its continued support of Namibia’s national programmes.

The ambassador highlighted Namibia’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Twyfelfontein (ǀUi-ǁaes) and the Namib Sand Sea—and expressed hope that Brandberg would be inscribed as a third World Heritage Site in 2026.

Discussions also touched on the important liaison and coordination role played by National Commissions within the UNESCO system.

Ambassador Bohlke-Moller further reaffirmed Namibia’s support for El Enani, who assumed office as UNESCO Director-General in November 2025 following his endorsement by the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
